Award-winning young photographer Lucinda Chua’s exhibition, entitled “The Still Point” is know view.
As a photographer, Chua makes work reflecting her medium, commenting on the subjectivity of the photograph and its inability to represent a moment in its entirety. Using a large format plate camera, studio lighting and models, she presents ordinary every day spaces in a romantic over dramatised way. Her photographs are fragments of narratives, where her characters appear trapped within the photographic frame, bound to their poses, incapable of completing their journeys.
Lucinda Chua commented: “I am interested in the transient space and making a spectacle out of the every day. I work with found spaces, which I re order and reshuffle until they become unrecognisable from how I found them... once I have taken the photograph, I put everything back exactly as it was. I like the idea that this moment I have captured will never occur again, all that exists to document it is the photograph.”
Chua has previously exhibited in internationally and the UK. In September this year she will represent the United Kingdom at the Young Artists Biennale in Skopje, Macedonia.
